Generate fake IBANs with valid checksums

Plausible IBANs for Germany, France, UK, Spain, Netherlands, and Italy — each with a correct mod-97 checksum so they pass structural validation in banking sandboxes.

IBAN = country code (2) + check digits (2) + BBAN (national format).

Length varies by country: DE/GB = 22 chars, NL = 18, FR/IT = 27, ES = 24.

The mod-97 checksum catches typos but doesn't verify the BBAN exists.

Quick Start

How IBANs work

An IBAN is country code + 2-digit checksum + national BBAN. The check digits are computed so the whole IBAN, after letter expansion, is congruent to 1 mod 97.

  1. 01

    Pick a country

DE, FR, GB, ES, NL, or IT.

Inputs are treated as UTF-8 throughout the pipeline and validated client-side as you type — nothing dispatches until the value is well-formed.

    Choose count

1 to 500 IBANs per batch.

Each toggle re-computes through a memoised hook, so flipping options never resets your input and the UI stays snappy on large inputs.

    Generate

Random BBAN + computed mod-97 check digits.

Randomness — where used — comes from crypto.getRandomValues, never Math.random. Heavy work sits in useMemo.

    Copy or download

Pass into banking sandbox tests and import flows.

Copy writes through navigator.clipboard and downloads use a Blob — zero network traffic. Same input plus same options always yield the same bytes.

Pro tips

Pro tips for everyday utilities

Reach for crypto.getRandomValues

Cryptographically random for IDs, tokens, salts. Math.random is for animation and games, not security.

Sort IDs lexicographically

UUID v4 has no time ordering. Use ULID or UUID v7 if you need sorted IDs.

Mock data with seeds

Faker-style libraries can be seeded so tests are reproducible. Embed the seed in the fixture file.

Reference cards beat memory

Cheatsheets for Vim, Git, Docker, Linux signals are faster than man pages when you’re mid-flow.

Browser APIs vary

Touch events, gamepads, and clipboard differ across vendors. Feature-detect before use.

Persist in the right place

localStorage for user preferences, sessionStorage for transient state, IndexedDB for structured data.

Use Cases

When to fake IBANs

Banking integration QA, demos, training.

Banking sandbox QA

Cross-country IBAN handling without real accounts. Random values come from crypto.getRandomValues — cryptographically secure for tokens, salts, and session IDs. Math.random is deterministic enough for animations but predictable enough to be a security bug.

CSPRNG-backed

SEPA payment tests

Validate end-to-end SEPA flows with structural IBANs. Pair with hashids, ULID, or UUID v7 when you need both random and sortable — useful for primary keys, public-facing IDs, and event log ordering without a sequence column.

reproducible

Form validators

Bulk batch tests for IBAN regex and mod-97 checks. Output is deterministic given the same seed, so fixtures and tests stay reproducible across CI runs and contributor machines. Embed the seed in the fixture file for full replay.

snappy

CRM seeding

Populate B2B records with country-correct IBANs. Heavy work runs through useMemo so the UI stays snappy on large inputs. Same input + same options yields identical bytes — the kind of stability snapshot tests rely on.

feature-detected

Demo videos

Show invoices and payouts with believable data. Storage tools persist to the right backend: localStorage for user preferences, sessionStorage for transient state, IndexedDB for structured data. Pick the right shelf and quota worries disappear.

deterministic

Training

Teach SEPA basics without exposing real BICs. Browser feature detection: clipboard, fullscreen, gamepad, and Web Bluetooth APIs gracefully fall back when unavailable. No surprise white screens on Safari or older Firefox.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No — bank codes are random. The IBAN passes mod-97 but doesn't resolve to any actual account.
No — the bank code likely isn't real. Even if it is, the IBAN won't match a customer.
Each format hand-coded with the right alpha/numeric mix. Open a PR to add more — the mod-97 logic is shared.
Move the country/check to the end, expand letters to digits (A=10, B=11…), then check the giant number mod 97 = 1.
Yes — IBANs are built in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
